I just love the book of Proverbs. There are so many tibits of wisdom that are throughout the book. This morning, I was in deep thought over Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.” My commentary stated that the right choice often requires hard work and sacrifice and that we shouldn’t be enticed by apparent shortcuts. This is so true and it really applies to every area of life. I think about the things that I am working on right now:

My Bible study…my knowledge and faith with deepen very slowly or not at all without investing the time in the Word and in prayer.

My exercising…if I am not consistent and disciplined in working out several times a week, I will not see progress.

My piano/keyboard practicing…I will not improve in my skill unless I work hard at practicing my chord recognition, playing by ear, and sight reading.

And the list goes on….

God tries to help us to realize this truth, but in our society it is so easy to want to stray away from this because we have grown up being comfortable….use this “thing” to lose weight in just 5 mins a day, pop this prepared meal in the microwave, oh yes, and what really made me laugh this morning…the landscaper mowing the lawn (that really was not that big) by standing on the back of the lawnmower and riding around in circles. Have we really gotten that lazy?

Thank you God for helping me to realize the things that I need to put a bit more effort into, even if they may seem small.

Five Guys Burgers and FriesSeveral months ago I went to this restaurant in Levittown, NY called Five Guys Burgers and Fries. I tell you, I had the best fresh french fries. They have bags and bags of potatoes that are washed, peeled, cut, and fried. They actually do not add salt, you can add your own.

I was so inspired by the taste, that I made my own attempt have a go at it. I used the same procedure, but I added a little bit of salt after the potatoes were done frying. I made sure to drain them in paper towels…I can’t stand overly greasy fries. They came out wonderfully and I must say that I may just be able to last a few more months without another trip out for fries. Now, I must learn how to make a really tasty cheeseburger!

So, recently I have been on hiatus with my blogging…particularly because there has been so much going on in my life that things have temporarily gotten overwhelming. I mean…the past 2 weeks have been a time of testing in regard to my faith and my trust. I know that God always has a plan for us…but sometimes it gets to me when I can’t see the plan. So, I have decided that I must do a bit of digging to help myself in these areas.

Another thing that has recently been an area of struggle for me, is being content. With the media and just plain old society sending the message that a better paying job, a bigger house, a high-end car, the newest gadget, etc… is the way to happiness and fulfillment, it is easy to lose focus and remember that God is the one that provides joy, fulfillment, and contentment.

I must say, eveyday is a battle, but knowing that the scriptures have what I need to see and hear in order to keep things in perspective, helps me to overcome.
